Emma met Smokey the Bear at Safety Town and fell in love with him. She came home that day and told me that Smokey patted her on the head as he was leaving. She said, "He didn't pat anyone else on the head." It's funny what kids remember. Another day, Emma came home crying from her summer cooking class and told me that another little girl told her that Smokey was dying because he was old. Emma was actually not consolable for about an hour. Lucky for me, Cory works with Smokey every day. Cory was able to ask Smokey to make a special visit to our house. Even though Smokey is very busy fighting forest fires, he came to see Emma and her cousins. He even brought them slap bracelets and special fire fighter badges. :)
