Emma means "Blessing" :)

When Uncle Masao and Cousin Shigetaka were visiting from Japan a few months ago, I asked how people chose the Kanji for their children's names in Japan. I guess it's a pretty individual decision for every set of parents because of the sheer number of Kanji and the different meanings. They found an actress named Emma who used these two Kanji for her name...and this way of writing Emma actually means "blessing". Emma latched onto that and really loves the fact that her name is so meaningful. :) Uncle Masao and Aunt Yoshimi painted these beautiful boards for Emma's name. The one on the left is her name in Kanji. The one on the right is in Hirigana. We got these in the mail yesterday and ran over to buy frames so we could hang them up. :) What a kind and thoughtful gift.
